Ida Lee Bright was a former educator who taught school in the Frisco ISD from 1974-1984, when she was forced to retire due to her health.

Although her career was shortened by many health problems related to diabetes, friends say she absolutely loved teaching school. Like all those who teach home economics, Ida Lee truly believed in her subject matter. She had a passion for what she taught because she knew that students would use those life skills for the rest of their lives.

Even when forced to leave teaching and stay close to home, Ida Lee wanted to contribute. She remained an active volunteer, spending countless hours on the phone helping with school projects and activities such as the FHS Band.

So Ida Lee’s lessons about life didn’t stop in the classroom. One of the greater life skills she passed on to her students and all those who knew her was about choosing one’s attitude.

She saw the best in every situation and helped everyone feel at ease with her circumstances. She was forgiving, and she always found the good. She sympathized with the problems of others despite her own and considered the needs of others first. She had a wonderful sense of humor and inspired many as she fought the good fight. She was a teacher always, inside and outside of the school doors.

Ida Lee was born in Gainesville, Texas, and attended the local Catholic School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Gainesville High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in Home Economics from North Texas State University.
