Christie Destination Imagination Team Competes at Global Finals

Jun 05, 2014

A total of four Frisco ISD teams qualified to compete at the prestigious Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals, the world's largest creative thinking and problem solving competition for kids.

Among them was a team from Christie Elementary School including students Riley Bagwell, Ranak Bansal, Amelie Chen, Eshaan Chichula, Santosh Kumaravel, Daniel Nemirvoski and Adit Pathania. The team was led by parent team manager Patty Bagwell.

More than 1,400 teams from 45 states and 16 countries participated in the event, held May 21-24 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Destination Imagination is an educational program in which student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at tournaments.

The challenges require students to apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), in addition to improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, teamwork and community service.

Teams meet outside of the regular school day and are managed by parent leaders. The program requires many months of preparation and commitment on the part of students and parents.

Just qualifying for Global Finals is a significant accomplishment and the Christie team qualified after winning honors at the local and state levels.

The group placed first at regionals, sixth at state and 14th at globals through their participation in the technical challenge. They also tied for fourth on the instant challenge.
