Healthy Concession Stand Benefits Frisco Family Services

Dec 10, 2015

Curtsinger Elementary School incorporated a creative idea into its annual flag football tournament in November to promote health and wellness among students.

School staff and PTA members worked with Frisco ISD Director of Coordinated School Health Sheila Gardner to plan and execute a “healthy” concession stand, where students purchased healthy snacks, such as veggies and fruit, with pocket change.

The concession stand collected more than $500, which was donated to Frisco Family Services, along with hundreds raised through the school’s book fair.

It also supported Curtsinger's goal of being promoted to an official Healthy Zone School from a Healthy Zone School – In Training as part of the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program, an effort by The Cooper Institute® and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to promote health in schools.

Many parents attend the annual football tournament at Centennial High School to watch the third, fourth and fifth graders play and learn about teamwork. Dallas Cowboys' mascot Rowdy was also on hand to encourage and cheer on students.
