Norris Elementary Hosts Surprise Military Reunion

Feb 03, 2016

Norris Elementary helped make a military homecoming even more special for two second grade students.

Twins Ava and Mya Keefe have a close relationship with their older sister, who was deployed for more than six months with the United States Air Force.

Aliyah Gallegos, a 2013 graduate of Frisco ISD’s Heritage High School, returned home in late January.

When Norris Principal Ashelyn Abney learned of Gallegos’ impending return, she worked with the students’ family to plan a special surprise for them at Norris Now, the school’s weekly Friday afternoon assembly.

Gallegos was the surprise guest during a regular “Guess Who” segment, where students are provided with clues about a teacher or staff member in the audience.

Many students initially thought they knew who was being described – but it wasn’t until the last clue was revealed – that the person had twin sisters in second grade in Ms. Cardaropoli’s class AND shared the same name and spelling of their newest student – that it became clear that this “Guess Who” identity was a bit different.

Staff members revealed photos on the big screen of Gallegos pictured with Ava and Mya.

The two young girls were called to the stage and then their older sister was revealed from behind a large curtain.

The girls spent several long moments hugging their sister as students, staff and parents stood in applause.
