Phillips Elementary School

Dear Phillips Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I would like to share a little information about me and about our wonderful school. My husband Gene and I have been married for 29 years, and we now have two children that make us very happy and proud. Our family is expanding now, and we are so excited about that!

My son Justin is a third grade teacher in Frisco ISD and his lovely fiancé, Shelley, whom we love very much, is like a second daughter to us. My daughter Rani is a sixth grade teacher in Nacogdoches ISD. She was married this summer, and we now have a wonderful son in-law named Chaz whom we adore! He is a sixth grade teacher in Nacogdoches ISD, too. We have a cute Bichon-Poodle named Roxie who is now serving as our substitute child since Gene and I are empty-nesting!

I was a teacher at Fisher Elementary for four years, served as an assistant principal at Spears Elementary for three years, and opened Phillips Elementary as the principal in 2012. Learning is at the heart of everything we do at Phillips, and my job is to be a lead learner. I am expanding my ability to serve our students, staff, and families by pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of North Texas. I finished my final coursework the summer and am working on my dissertation this year.

Our charge as educators will always be to create the best possible learning opportunities for our students. Student curiosity, engagement, and inquiry are key components of a great learning environment. As we enter our seventh year at Phillips, we want to become a School of Curiosity, and we will be working on ways to ignite each student’s innate desire to learn and grow. As a real team of students, parents, and educators, we will all learn together in order to establish an ever-more rigorous and rich learning environment for all!

With admiration and appreciation,

Dana Solomon Proud Principal Phillips Elementary
