Purefoy Elementary Raises Funds for Charity with Letters to Santa

Dec 16, 2015

Purefoy Elementary students recently wrote letters to Santa as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s “Believe” campaign, in which the Foundation partners with Macy’s, according to Tiffany Ragland, counselor at Purefoy.

Make-A-Wish and Macy’s developed the letter-writing campaign to raise funds for the Foundation and give children a way to help others. Initially, Macy’s agreed to donate a dollar for every letter submitted to Santa. Many of those letters were selfless and asked for good health and happiness for all children.

“Purefoy students submitted 461 letters. Then Macy’s changed their offer to $2 per letter. So our total contribution was $922,” Ragland reports.

As part of the project, teachers and students talked about “how small acts of kindness and simply our time can make a difference for someone,” Ragland said, noting how happy she was that so many students asked for all children to be healthy and safe.
