Rogers' Turkey Legs Reveal Supports Meals on Wheels

Dec 01, 2014

Frisco ISD's Rogers Elementary School continued its annual Turkey Legs fundraiser for Meals on Wheels this year, raising $1,049.46 to help the area’s senior citizens.

This was the seventh year that students and teachers donated change to vote for their favorite "turkey" during the week before Thanksgiving Break.

Three "turkeys," or more accurately, teachers, are secretly selected each year by the assistant principal. The big reveal as to who they really are comes at the end of the program during the Turkey Legs performance by Rogers staff.

“This fun event has always been for Meals on Wheels, and a representative of the non-profit organization always comes to our program and accepts the cashier’s check,” said Susie Nesmith, principal of Rogers. “Prior to the assembly, the children can put their coins in one of the three buckets to vote for their favorite mystery 'turkey,' thus creating a donation for Meals on Wheels. It is about giving back to our community during the time of Thanksgiving.”
