Jan 12, 2015

Jamie Buzan, a fifth grade teacher at Rogers Elementary School in Frisco ISD, is a local winner in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award contest, which honors educators for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students.

She was honored by VFW Post 8273 representatives Quartermaster Preston Rich and Post Commander John Archer in December.

Buzan was nominated for the award by Rogers Principal Susie Nesmith, who cited Buzan’s efforts to help her students understand our nation’s past and appreciate the workings of the U.S. government.

“She is very dedicated and committed to providing our students the understanding of how our government was created and why and how the process continues,” Nesmith wrote in her nomination. “I always love to observe her teaching her classes focusing on the democratic beliefs and values, and she does an amazing job bringing our history to life for our children.”
