Smith Fifth Graders Promote Reading with Crayon Skit

Sep 02, 2014

Fifth grade students at Smith Elementary School kicked off the Bluebonnet Reading program on August 29 by performing a skit about the book “The Day the Crayons Quit.”

The adorable story by Drew Daywalt is one of twenty Bluebonnet books of various genres picked by Texas librarians for students to enjoy.

In the book, the crayons complain to their owner that they are overworked and unfairly used. Red has to work overtime for all the holidays. Blue is worn down to a nub because she is such a favorite color. Black doesn't like only being use to outline. Both children and adults can relate because who hasn't colored with crayons in their lifetime?!

The student performance, presented during the school’s first Celebrate Smith assembly of the year, was enjoyed by parents, students and staff alike.
