Smith Elementary Shows Students the Potential of a Dot

Sep 23, 2014

Students made their mark on Smith Elementary during a celebration for International Dot Day on Monday, September 15.

The day was inspired by Peter Reynolds' book, The Dot, which encourages students to embrace their own creativity.

Students spent time in the Smith library, where librarian Jan Pelias and technology integration facilitator Donita O'Hair showed them how to make dots come to life using augmented reality.

They used tablets and the ColAR Mix app to make pictures of dots they had drawn appear to be three dimensional and moving.

Students also dressed in polka dot clothing and connected with fellow students in Ontario and New York via Skype.
