Richard A. Wilkinson worked in education for 35 years, including nearly 20 years of service in Frisco ISD from 1997-2016. During his time with the District, FISD experienced tremendous enrollment growth and as the Deputy Superintendent of Business Services, he played a key role.
Frisco ISD’s ability to meet the needs of new students required community support. Voters authorized the issuance of schoolhouse bonds through five referendums for a combined total of $2.467 billion during Wilkinson’s tenure.
For each campus that was built, Wilkinson worked furiously behind the scenes negotiating land purchases and solidifying relationships with landowners, the municipalities and the community. He oversaw the completion of more than 70 schools, facilities and renovations. It is fitting that a Frisco ISD campus bears his name.
Wilkinson also led the development of many internal processes that guided District operations as FISD continued to grow. He helped facilitate public-private partnerships that expanded student opportunities and shaped the development of Frisco and FISD.
As an exemplary servant leader, Wilkinson left a resounding stamp on our community.
