hs_hhs_winningyearbookphotoCongratulations to Heritage High School junior Cory Madden for placing in the 32nd annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Circle Contest.

Madden received Honorable Mention for his feature photo of the Heritage Highsteppers in last year’s school yearbook.

The photo depicts drill team members performing a series of basic moves on the field before the start of a varsity football game. The sequence is intended to provide visual variety for the fans, while they wait for the team to take the field.

Madden is the only recipient from Frisco ISD honored through the contest.

Since 1984, CSPA has recognized outstanding achievement in both verbal and visual categories for newspapers, magazines and yearbooks. Digital media categories were added in 2009. This year, these categories attracted 4,646 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States.

Judges cited a total of 671 winners as either First, Second or Third Place or for Certificates of Merit for those deemed worthy of honorable mention in a category. Entry categories included those for yearbooks or for digital (online) media in this CSPA annual competition, which celebrates individual achievement by student writers, editors, designers and photographers.

Total Gold Circle entries from the 2013-2014 academic year amounted to 12,037 including print newspaper and magazine categories previously announced in October 2014.
