Independence Students Honored by Rotary in February

Independence High School students Reid Poffenbarger, son of Gregg and Wendy Poffenbarger, and Sruthi Boddu, daughter of Ravi and Malini Boddu, are Rotary Spotlight Students of the Month.

The students were special guests of the Frisco Rotary Club which met February 11 at INTEC.

Poffenbarger is a member of the IHS National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors and is active in Teen Leadership. He is a winner of the school Courage Award and an Outstanding Achievement Award.

Outside of class, he is active in his church as a worship leader, drummer for the band Golgotha and a drum teacher. He plans to attend Berklee College of Music to obtain a performance degree.

Boddu is also in National Honor Society, president of  DECA, vice president of Key Club and is taking part in the Independent Study Mentorship program.

She is a volleyball referee and worked to create and run a book club at McSpedden Elementary.

She plans to major in either economics or finance and has not decided which college she will attend.
