Fowler Ensemble to Host Local Concert Ahead of Major Performance

Nov 04, 2015

The 2015-16 Fowler Middle School Percussion Ensemble will perform Saturday, November 14 at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), an expo which draws thousands of drummers, percussionists and exhibitors from around the world.

The showcase concert will be held at 11 a.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

Fowler is the only middle school percussion ensemble in the country chosen to participate.

Each year, one middle school ensemble, two high school ensembles and three college ensembles are selected to perform showcase concerts at the convention after a call-for-tapes evaluation process.

The Fowler Percussion Ensemble will host a send-off concert prior to their performance in San Antonio, featuring all seven of the selections students will play at the PASIC convention. The music was specifically written or arranged for the ensemble to premiere at the international expo.

The send-off concert will held on Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Liberty High School. It will include world-class guest artists Lalo Davila, Poovalur Sriji and Josh Jennings performing with the ensemble.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition is designed to encourage, promote and reward musical excellence among middle school/junior high, high school, and collegiate percussion ensembles.

The conductor of the Fowler Percussion Ensemble is Dr. Rob Parks. He is assisted by Arjuna Contreras and Reid Paxton.

Students who contributed to the winning recording during the 2014-15 school year include Zachary Suzuki, Arvind Subramanian, Lindsey Mabrey, Kennedy Williams, Timothy Naumov, Aunteek Naser, Hannah Bletsch and Jonathan Evans.
