Griffin Celebrates 10 Years of Educating Students

Dec 02, 2014

Griffin Anniversary CakeCurrent and former members of the Griffin Middle School family, including staff members, students and parents, gathered in November to reflect on the past 10 years.

The Frisco ISD school, located at 3703 Eldorado Parkway, opened to students in 2004. At that time, Principal Elizabeth Holcomb noted there were a lot more corn fields and horses nearby and Fisher and Boals elementary schools fed Griffin, though neither do now.

Memories of past academic, athletic, fine arts and community service accomplishments were shared and Holcomb thanked all in attendance for their dedication and commitment to Griffin students. Time was taken to recognize current staff members who helped open Griffin, as well as former teachers who have moved on to leadership positions across the District.

Holcomb recalled that had the school’s first students voted differently, Griffin could have been home to the Grizzlies or Lions instead of their actual mascot, the Gators.

To show the school’s appreciation for her service over the past decade, art teachers surprised Holcomb with a portrait created by students in her honor.

Guests also enjoyed refreshments and a performance by the Griffin orchestra.
