FISD Delayed Opening/Cancellation of School
District Information regarding Inclement Weather

School could be cancelled the night before or the morning of the day in question. If school is cancelled the night before, every effort will be made to begin the communications efforts by 10pm. The decision to delay school would most likely be made on the morning of the event.

In the event of a closing:​ staff, parents and students will be notified via a variety of ways.
(Just know in advance you will get A LOT of notifications).

  • FISD Social Media-twitter, Facebook
  • FISD District Website – Status will be on the main banner/page once you load the main FISD page.
  • Griffin MS Social Media- Twitter and Facebook
  • Local News Outlets:  TV and Radio

In the event that bad weather moves in during the school day, it is highly unlikely we would release school early due to parents’ inability to be home to receive students or pick them up. Additionally, due to triple routing of busses, releases would need to be staggered and problematic. If a parent feels they need to pick up their student based on distance to safely travel, that is an individual decision.

Should you choose to pick up your child early you must provide your driver license when picking up your student(s). If you designate another person to pick up your child, they must be on your emergency contact list.
