FISD Students Participate in TEDxKids@SMU Conference

Nov 17, 2014

Heritage TEDx SpeakerFrisco ISD middle and high school students recently got the opportunity to take part in TEDxKids@SMU, a one-of-a-kind experience engaging kids with big ideas and great conversations.

The TEDx and TED model of conferences are an ideal platform to present new, engaging ideas to the next generation of leaders, artists, creators, innovators and inventors. Short, bursty presentations are offered on a broad array of topics. The event was held October 31 in Dallas.

Heritage High School senior Prashy Veeramraju was one of the featured speakers and addressed the audience on the topic of music as therapy.

Heritage junior Olivia Callan served as a co-emcee, while several other students were selected as hosts to groups of 5-10 middle school students during the conference. Hosts mentored the younger students, facilitated conversations regarding topics covered at the conference and got the opportunity to participate in one of the service learning projects offered through TEDxSMU.

Hosts included: Alex Gorman, Anjana Menon, Tori Miller, Will Reagor, Abeer Siddiqui and Hannah Winter, all of Heritage High School, and Lukas Caskey of Independence High School.

Some students from Maus Middle School also attended the conference in exchange for four hours of community service.
