Pioneer Heritage PTO Wins National Community Service Award

Jul 09, 2014

The Pioneer Heritage Middle School PTO has been recognized by PTO Today magazine for a week-long educational program to raise awareness and funds to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans.

The PTO has been named the 2014 Parent Group of the Year for Outstanding Community Service Project. The award honors a project spearheaded by the parent group, with involvement by students, parents, faculty, and/or administrators to benefit others.

The Pioneer Heritage PTO hosted a series of events and activities in November 2013 to benefit the Veterans Walk of Honor at Frisco Commons Park. The effort raised $3,235 for the Frisco Veterans Foreign Wars Post 8273 to go toward construction of the walk, which will feature memorial bricks honoring those who have served or continue to serve in the Armed Forces.

The award comes with a $500 donation to the PTO. All national winners and runners up will be featured in the September issue of PTO Today magazine.

The goal of the awards program is to shine a spotlight on the great work being done by parent groups at elementary and middle schools across the country.
