PHMS Student Plays in International Cricket Tournament

May 15, 2015

Recently, Aswin Nair, a seventh grade student at Pioneer Heritage Middle School, traveled to Guyana to represent the Under 15 USA National Team in a week-long International Cricket Tournament.

The tournament was held March 30 - April 5, 2015 and the USA team played six games in the tournament. Nair plays the position of bowler.

The position of bowler is an important one. In the sport of cricket, bowling is the action of propelling the ball toward the wicket defended by a batsman. A player skilled at bowling is called a bowler; a bowler who is also a competent batsman is known as an all-rounder. Bowling the ball is distinguished from throwing the ball by a strictly specified biomechanical definition which restricts the angle of extension of the elbow. A single act of bowling the ball towards the batsman is called a ball or a delivery. Bowlers bowl deliveries in sets of six, called an over. Once a bowler has bowled their over, one of their team mates will bowl an over from the other end of the pitch.

Cricket is played in most countries that have at one time been under British rule. There is growing interest in the sport in Frisco. On the weekends, groups may be seen playing at various parks and school fields.
