Patriot Pen Essay Contest Winner Honored at Pep Rally

Feb 11, 2016

Brynn Shipley, a seventh grade student at Scoggins Middle School, was honored at a school pep rally by her peers, teachers and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8273 for taking second place at the state level in the annual Patriot Pen Essay Contest.

Shipley is a student of history teacher David Breaux. She won third place at the local level, then took first place at District and then second place in the state. She was encouraged to participate in the contest by Breaux.

Principal Barbara Warner expressed her pride in Shipley’s accomplishment. She noted that she wanted to recognize Brynn at the February 8th pep rally, which is normally devoted only to basketball, to honor her academic success and her good citizenship before all of her fellow Scoggins students.

Shipley won $25 for the local contest, $200 for District and $1,000 for the state award. The essay will now go on to compete at the national level.
