Scoggins and Vandeventer Represent FISD at #BestSelf Conference

May 17, 2016

Female students in the “I Am She” clubs at Scoggins and Vandeventer middle schools were among hundreds of girls at the #BestSelf conference presented by the Dallas Women’s Foundation on May 14 at the Union Station in Plano.

#BestSelf is focused on building future leaders by empowering girls to be their best selves through programs that teach them about friendships, themselves and healthy approaches to conflict.

The program brings together educators, parents and youth to challenge stereotypes, and find ways to ensure that women and girls are empowered to pursue their dreams, use their voice, and mentor one another as they pursue gender equality in business, government and society.

During the conference, students attended leadership sessions called “Be Your #BestSelf” and “Be Brave” held by best-selling authors Rachel Simmons and Rosalind Wiseman.

Along with the sessions, students listened to music provided by DJ Girlbot, took pictures in photo booths, played “People BINGO” and received #BestSelf T-shirts, swag bags and prizes.
