About Us

The Stafford Math/Science Team attends TMSCA meets throughout the year - growing accustomed to the stress of timed tests.

Who is eligible to join?
Grade 6-8 students may participate in the Math and Science Team under the guidelines of the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) Math and Science competition. This organization uses the UIL’s format for the Number Sense, Calculator, Math and Science events.

How do you qualify to compete?
Students must meet a predetermined test score during one of the three qualifier events in order to make it to the state competition. Students who qualify at specific meets in February can go on to the state meet in San Antonio in April. Students are able to compete in four different tests: number sense, calculator, general math, and science. After school practice focuses on those tests to prepare students to compete at the meets.

Anything else we should know?
It is an amazing thing to see so many students willing to give up their Saturday once a month and spend four hours taking tests. Any student with an interest or skill in math or science would benefit greatly from this program and should consider joining Stafford’s Math and Science Team.
