Stafford Middle School Honors Band, 2012-2013

State Winners 2nd Year in a Row!

The Stafford Middle School Band recently brought home the top prize in the concert division of the Association of Texas Small School Bands 2013 Outstanding Performance Series.

Students were honored for their performance of "Joy Revisited" by Frank Ticheli.

It is the second year in a row the Stafford band has won the concert division for 2C schools.

Students also took second place state-wide in the march division for their selection of "March of the Trolls" by Edward Grieg and Brian Beck.

The ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series is a compact disc audition process designed to select the most outstanding Class C, CC, A, AA, and AAA concert band programs in the state of Texas each year.

Schools begin by submitting their recordings at the regional level and then must advance to the area level and state level before final adjudication at the state level.

Due to the high level of competition, it is extremely rare for a band to do so well in both categories. Stafford Middle School was one of only two schools across the state to have three recordings advance to the state level.

“I am very proud of the students’ hard work and determination,” said Stafford Band Director Christian Holzer. “Working with them every day is a true joy. Our Stafford parents and administration are also incredibly supportive.”

The Stafford Band is led by directors Christian Holzer, Benjamin Kelly, Kristin Wilson and Nathan Sundberg.
