Student Selected to Compete at Collin County Spelling Bee

Jan 19, 2016

The spellers at the Second Annual Frisco ISD Spelling Bee were not prone to maunder as the top six spelled their way to a trip to the Collin County Spelling Bee.

Maunder, which means rambling speech, was the winning word spelled by Austin Ma, an eighth grade student from Fowler Middle School.

The word-wise students, many of whom have spent months studying spelling lists and dictionaries, ranged from the fourth through eighth grade. During the first few rounds, very few contestants gave ground to their competitors.

Thirty-nine student winners from FISD elementary and middle schools competed in the event, which went 17 rounds before a winner was named.

The top six spellers from the District Spelling Bee are eligible to compete in the Collin County Spelling Bee that will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3 at Faubion Middle School in McKinney. The top six spellers are:
