Vandeventer Middle School

Vandeventer NJHS Food Drive Kicks Off October 5th

Sep 28, 2015

Our annual food drive will be from October 5 – October 16, and it will be a wonderful time for us as a school to give back to those in the Frisco community.  All items collected during our food drive will go to the Frisco Family Services Food Pantry and benefit those who are in need.

Get ready for pie!!!  In the spirit of friendly competition, during the first week of the food drive there will be a contest between grade levels to see who can bring in the greatest number of baking items.  Closed container baking items needed are new and never-been-used flour, sugar, and cooking oil.  The grade level that collects the most items will earn the opportunity to throw pie in the face of one of their grade-level teachers!  Students can drop off their baking items in one of the three designated areas in the cafeteria before school between October 5 and October 9, and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) members will be responsible for counting and keeping a running total of items collected per grade level.  Pie throwing activities will be on Friday, October 9, during lunch.

During the second week of the food drive, October 12 through 16, our contest will be “Duct Tape for Dish Soap, Tomato Products, and More!”  Each student who brings two or more items of dish soap, tomato products (sauce, paste, diced, crushed), box juices, rice, chili, canned fruit, or oatmeal and drops them off in the cafeteria before school will receive a slip of paper that can later be redeemed for a 24” strip of duct tape.  During lunch on Friday, October 16, the piece of paper can be exchanged for the duct tape, and the duct tape can then be used to tape a staff member to the wall.  Coach Siess was taped to the wall last year, and it was a big hit!

We hope that while bringing students’ attention to the food drive through fun competitions, we also communicate the importance of giving back to the community and serving others.  Vandeventer has always done a fabulous job supporting Frisco Family Services through our food drive, and we know that our Viking community will again come together to support others this year.  Thank you in advance for your help!
