Wester Raises Money through Hoops for Heart

Feb 09, 2015

On Tuesday, February 3, Wester Middle School hosted a student versus faculty basketball game to raise money for the American Heart Association. The game was the culminating event of a three week fundraiser, headed up by Coach Christina Garcia, in which students raised $5,949 which almost doubled their $3,000 goal! Special recognition and thanks goes out to our top fundraiser, sixth grade student, Cole Harris, for collecting $1,122.

Dr. Jeremy Lyon got in on the action by graciously agreeing to coach our wonderful Wester students. All three grade levels were represented by a boy squad and a girl squad. The faculty, made up of male and female coaches and teachers, was coached by Mr. Kenny Chandler. Both the faculty and students played an entertaining and aggressive game, but ultimately, the faculty came out on top and won by three points. All players were supported by the Wester cheerleaders and a group of teacher cheerleaders who brought much pep and enthusiasm to an already exciting game. Way to go, Wester Wildcats!
