Wester Student Helps Create Emergency Response App

Jun 23, 2015

Rushil Chander, who will be in eighth grade this fall at Wester Middle School, recently traveled to Washington, D.C. as part of an Army competition promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) literacy and a foundation for innovative careers in science and engineering.

Chandler and two other local students make up “Team Protons.” As part of the competition, they created a mobile application to help communities in the wake of disasters.

The team has already won $17,000 in awards, $5,000 of which came from a Stem-In-Action grant, which is reserved for projects whose real-world implementation show the most promise.
