CTE Architecture Teacher Wins Grants for Great Ideas

Jan 21, 2015

Funding from the Grant for Great Ideas program was designated to go to the Shed Build Off project. This is a collaboration between the Agricultural Mechanics class and the Advanced Architecture class. The concept behind the project is to give the Architecture students their first encounter being in charge of the construction process and the Agricultural Mechanics students their first encounter with framing plans. The students would pair up and create a set of construction documents for an 8’-0” x 8’-0” storage shed. After the documents are created, the Agricultural Mechanics students would begin building while the Architecture students observed as Construction Managers.

This project will give both sets of students’ practical experience with residential construction, working in teams to achieve several goals, and work in teams to create and abide by a build schedule. At the end of the project, we hope to sell the storage shed in order to fund the project for the next year.
