Graphic Design Students Earn Honorable Mention in DART Contest

Apr 02, 2015

Nicole Williams and Sophia Moncaleano, both first year graphic design and illustration students at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center, have been named honorable mention winners in the high school category of the annual Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) student art contest.

Williams chose to represent the Dallas skyline and Moncaleano featured monsters riding on a bus in a poster she named Wild Adventures with DART.

"The DART mass transportation system allows people to explore their own worlds, they have time to relax, read, or daydream rather than focus on driving," Moncaleano said. "It's an eco-friendly transportation option because it reduces the gasoline consumption and pollution."

William's skyline was entitled the World of Dallas and showed a DART bus traveling through the city's skyline and famous landmarks.

She commented, "In my free time, I enjoy doing any activity related to art. I entered the contest because I wanted the opportunity to push my creativity and skills to create the DART poster. I have ridden the DART train before because it provides fast and relaxing transportation."

Both students will be honored during a recognition ceremony at the Dallas Museum of Art on Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. in the Horchow Auditorium. All of the winning artwork will be displayed at the museum from April 13 to April 27.
