Frisco ISD-TV Named Finalist for Pacemaker Award

Frisco ISD-TV has been named one of three finalists in the Monthly show category for NSPA’s Broadcast Pacemaker award, which is high school journalism’s oldest and most prestigious prize for excellence.

Frisco ISD-TV won this award in the Weekly/Biweekly category during the NSPA convention in Kansas City, Missouri in 2010 and in the Monthly category during the convention in Boston, Massachusetts in 2013.

The Frisco ISD-TV news team is hoping for a Pacemaker three-peat on November 14, 2015 during the 2015 JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Frisco ISD-TV Episode #063, the show up for the Pacemaker, is led by anchors and former crew members Chalen Broom (San Jose State University – Radio-TV-Film and Advertising) and Maria Lempke (University of North Texas – Radio, TV & Film), featuring stories by former crew members Bryson Salas (Collin College), Kyle Khang (University of North Texas – Radio, TV & Film), Valeri Vazquez (University of Southern California – School of Cinematic Arts), Bailey Stone (Centennial High School Senior) and current Frisco ISD-TV Senior Producer / Senior Editor Natasha Burklow.

In addition, former Frisco ISD-TV Producer/Editor Maria Lempke has been announced as a finalist for NSPA Broadcast Feature Story of the Year. Lempke’s story Return of a Founding Father was produced during the 2014-2015 season and shares details on a Benjamin Franklin impersonator’s visit to Gunstream Elementary School.

Lempke served one year on the Frisco ISD-TV news team and is a 2015 graduate of Wakeland High School. She is currently studying Radio, TV & Film at the University of North Texas and is a reporter for North Texas Television also known as ntTV.

Former Frisco ISD-TV Producer/Editor Bailey Stone has been announced as a finalist for both NSPA Broadcast News Story of the Year and NSPA Broadcast Sports Story of the Year. Stone’s stories Bear Necessities and A Pretty Pace were produced during the 2014-2015 season.

Stone served one year on the Frisco ISD-TV news team and is a senior at Centennial High School. She is currently focusing her efforts on legal studies at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center.
