CTE Center Mock Trial Team Reached SemiFinals

Feb 15, 2017

The 2016-2017 CTE Center competitive mock trial team closed its season out on February 4th in the semifinals of the Region X competition.  The team had been preparing their case in chief since October for this year homicide case. This year’s team advanced from an extremely difficult group in the three rounds of preliminary action in January. Three of the four teams in the CTE Centers group advanced to the semifinal stage which shows the strength of the group. The semifinal round was a close competition, leaving the CTE team just short of the chance for back to back trips to the state championships. This year’s seniors finished their competitive careers only losing to three teams over that span. Those losses are to the defending state champions Creekview, the number six team in state and current regional champ Prestonwood, and perennial regional and state finalist Bishop Lynch.

This year the team also added a courtroom sketch artist into the regional competition. Salma Balderas, a graphic design student from the CTE Center, was one of the artists to compete in the inaugural event this year in tandem with the trial competition. Salma is also a senior at Frisco High School and her sketch from the 2nd round preliminary is shown to the right.

The team returns six of the ten competitors and looks to build on this success of this senior class and return to state in 2018. The CTE Center Mock Trial team is led by Mr. Ben Ewald. Mock Trial 2016-17 team photo above at Semifinals.
