Bledsoe's School Wide Expectations are to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe.
Dear Bledsoe Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! This letter is to inform you of a process for creating safer and more effective schools, called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).
What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS consists of schoolwide elements as well as classwide implementation strategies where all students can be successful.
What is PBIS at our school?
We have developed schoolwide expectations and rules to define how students are to be successful in our school. You will see these expectations and rules posted in every classroom and common area throughout the building. Your child will be learning them during the first few days of school and throughout the year, as needed. Our school wide expectations are as follows:
Expectation #1: I can be safe.
Expectation #2: I can be respectful.
Expectation #3: I can be responsible.
Hallway Expectations (HEAT) Hands down Eyes and feet forward All voices off Take it slow | Restroom Expectations (FLUSH) Flush the toilet one time Leave it clean Use it quietly Stay private Hands washed | Cafe Expectations (CAFE) Clean up after yourself All voices on Level 1 Food kept to yourself Everyone use signals |
Seating Expectations (SEAT) Smart seat choices to help you learn Exercise self control Always use the seating appropriately Tidy up your space at the end of the day | GAGA Ball Expectations (GAGA) Go when it’s your turn Alert teacher of problems Good sportsmanship Always keep your hands to yourself | Playground Expectations (PLAY) Positive words and actions Listen for the whistle Alert teachers of problems You must be a good friend and sport |
GMB Expectations (GMB) Go to your assigned areas Move at appropriate times Be a polite audience member |
As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions, we do the following:
Consistently refer to our schoolwide and classwide expectations and rules.
Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
Respond to inappropriate behaviors.
Provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback.
Build and sustain relationships.
To further reinforce appropriate behavior, we have designed a schoolwide acknowledgement system. When students follow the expectations throughout the building, they will have an opportunity to earn a ticket which will be placed on the bulletin boards in the cafeteria by pod. Once the board is full, students will earn extra recess time with Mrs. Canal and Mrs. Day. Classroom teachers may also reward students for receiving these tickets with their own classroom reward system. Additionally, classrooms will be rewarded for showing these expectations throughout the school by earning B’s that will be displayed on the outward facing side of the classroom doors. Once classes earn 20, 40 and 60 B’s, they will earn rewards as a class.
When a student makes an unexpected choice, teachers will offer an opportunity to reflect on the decision and its potential impact on others. Paired with your support at home, this approach helps encourage positive choices in the learning environment.
If you have questions about PBIS at Bledsoe Elementary, please feel free to contact Soney Day, Assistant Principal.
We are looking forward to a successful school year!
