To inspire and teach; to transform and reach. Investing in every student, every day!
Joyce Comstock was an early pioneer of special education in Frisco ISD. A mentor and role model to many in our district, she was the special education department at Frisco High in the mid-80s. Mrs. Comstock went to college after her children started school and began her teaching career in Indiana with first graders. During this time she became interested in working with special needs students in her church, before programs were officially offered in public schools. Her late husband’s career caused them to move a great deal throughout their lives, so she taught in many places and at many levels before settling in this area. Former colleagues say one of her most beloved traits is her willingness to be involved in the lives of her students. As a strong advocate for her special education students, she and her husband Mitt would assist in obtaining prom dresses and tuxedoes, escorting them to the prom and standing in as dance partners for the evening. Her care and compassion made her beloved by all; although retired after 45 years in education, she is still active in FISD, teaching evening adult ESL classes.
