What are school-wide expectations?
Schoolwide expectations represent the social, emotional, and behavioral skills we want to see from everyone in the building, including both students and staff. Rather than focusing on what NOT to do, these expectations establish how TO be a part of the Sonntag family in every classroom and common space. Check out our Sonntag Elementary School school-wide expectations below!

I can...
- Safely communicate my needs and feelings using a calm voice and body.
- Collaborate and value others’ opinions and knowledge.
- Greet others and respond to others with kindness.

I can...
- Take care of my school and my supplies by cleaning up.
- I can be a problem solver for myself and others by using resources in my room.
- Be an active participant in my own learning.
- Use my time wisely to complete my work.
- Take ownership of my mistakes and accept feedback or redirections.
Safe
I can...
- Keep my hands and feet to myself.
- Get permission before leaving the room.
- Use calm down strategies when I’m frustrated.
- Report unsafe behaviors to an adult.
- Follow HEART expectations in the hallway.
How do students know about school-wide expectations?
We teach them! We spend the first week practicing and learning these expectations for a successful Sonntag citizen. The rest of the year we focus on mastering and supporting these expectations and our parents will receive updates on school-wide expectations throughout the year in our campus newsletter.
Additionally, signage around our school reminds students and visitors how school-wide expectations apply in different settings.
