Academic Pentathlon (Curricular)

 

 

The Academic Pentathlon is made of teams of 7th and 8th grade students who represent a wide diversity of academic backgrounds. Each grade-level team includes 9 student competitors and 2-3 alternates, based upon GPA from the previous academic year (Honors, Scholastic, and Varsity). The team allows middle school students an opportunity to experience the benefits of Academic Decathlon before entering high school. Teams are selected in November and meet once a week until the April event. Categories of competition include Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts/Literature, Fine Arts, and Super Quiz.  Announcements and Tryouts will be released in November, with details being posted to the Fowler Pentathlon Website in October.  https://sites.google.com/friscoisd.org/fowlerpentathlon/home

Art for Giving (Curricular)

Falcon artists use their skills to give back to our community. Artists learn art skills while making things to donate to different parts of our community.

Board Game Club (Non-Curricular)

The Board Game Club is for students who are interested in all things gaming!  Board Game Club meets regularly as a time to socialize and strategize with friends.

Cheerleading (Co-Curricular)

 

Fowler Cheer consists of 7th grade and 8th grade squads of approximately 12 members each.  Try-outs for the following year take place in the early spring. Cheerleaders are responsible for attending and providing spirit for pep rallies, football games, basketball games, and they represent Fowler at all times.  Please see Mrs. Bianchin or Mrs. Worman with any questions.

Community Outreach Club (Non-Curricular)

Community outreach club connects people who can help to build stronger communities and improve life of others by organizing food drives and raising awareness about important social issues. This club will meet once a month to come up with projects that make a difference in our community.

Drama Club (Curricular)

 

Fowler's Drama Club, The Fowler Fantasticks, is open to all students here at FMS. It's a great way to keep “plugged in” to everything going on in the Theatre Arts Program.  In our monthly meetings we will discuss current auditions, productions, and theater opportunities.  We will also learn theater games and techniques to better our craft. FCA (Non-Curricular)

FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It is an organization run by 8th grade student leaders. Any Fowler student 6th-8th grade is welcome to attend. Each FCA meeting will start off with a time of fellowship where students can participate in open gym playing basketball, volleyball or hanging out with their friends on the side. We will have a student led devotional the second half of each meeting. The purpose of FCA is to foster authentic friendships and to learn more about the Christian faith.

Green Leadership Team (Curricular)

 

Membership Requirements:

The Green Leadership Team works to create a “green” environment at Fowler Middle School.  This includes working on different projects throughout the year, such as the Green Team garden, assisting with recycling at lunch, learning how to incorporate environmentally friendly behaviors into daily life, and encouraging others to be more environmentally-friendly.  The Green Leadership Team meets once a month after school on Tuesdays.

International Junior Thespian Society (Curricular)

The International Junior Thespian Society (IJTS) is an honor society for theatre students. Membership is granted for the performance of meritorious work in theatre arts. Students in grades 6-8 who have earned a minimum of 10 points over the course of at least two productions are eligible for induction in the Spring semester. Points are given based on the official IJTS point system which awards points for the amount of work and level of dedication the student has shown during participation in productions, theatre classes, and other theatre activities. Students who are inducted into IJTS in middle school will be able to carry forward 5 points to high school towards becoming a member of the International Thespian Society.

Language Exchange Club (Curricular)

 

The language exchange club pairs native-English speakers with multilingual students, in order to learn additional languages. Students will teach their peers Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, and more. The focus will be on fun, get-to-know-you conversation, and learning about another's culture. Students are encouraged to bring food and items from their home culture to share with others.  The club meets every third Monday of each month in the 6th grade Science Lab (605).

National Junior Honor Society (Co-Curricular)

 

National Junior Honor Society is open to qualified students in seventh or eighth grade. To be eligible for membership, a student must have attended a Frisco middle school for the full semester prior to consideration and have a 94 average in the core subjects for the fall semester which they just completed. Selection for membership is based on an application process, which focuses on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Eligible students will be invited to apply for membership in the Spring semester. Dues are $10.00 per year.

Poetry and Prose Club (Curricular)

The Poetry and Prose Club is for students who want to have fun creating their own original poetry and prose and sharing it with their fellow club members. Students can also explore the works of various published authors and poets. When the opportunity arises, club members will be encouraged to submit their own original poems to contests. The club is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.

Robotics Club (Non-Curricular)

 

The Robotics Club will be a place for like-minded students to meet to explore the world of robotics and the development of robots. Students will be able to learn, practice, and challenge each other through programming and the construct of robots. All students will have the opportunity to think critically, collaborate, contribute, and innovate ideas through different challenges. The club will enrich students with real-life skills that will enter them into a realm of STEAM thinking.

Spanish Club (Curricular)

 

The Spanish Club broadens students’ knowledge of culture and festivities from Spanish-speaking countries. Members get the opportunity to celebrate some of the holidays taking place in Spanish-speaking countries.  They will also be able to watch movies, enjoy cooking activities, participate in fun arts and craft workshops, listen to music, and learn about art from Spanish-speaking countries.  The club activities are student generated, driven and planned.

Student Council (Co-Curricular)

 

Membership Requirements:

Elections for 7th and 8th grade representatives will be held at the end of the school year, and elections for 6th will be held during the second six weeks of the following school year. Students must have 80+ average and no disciplinary actions by teachers. Each grade (6th, 7th, and 8th) shall be represented by eight (8) elected representatives.

UIL (Curricular)

 

Fowler is excited to continue its new academic competition, UIL (University Interscholastic League) for a second year.  UIL covers multiple events including Calculator Applications, Dictionary Skills, Mathematics, Music Memory, Number Sense, Science, Social Studies, and Spelling.  Students will work with teacher coaches to develop skills and ultimately compete in a district competition in April.  If you are interested please go to bit.ly/FOWLERUIL for more information and to sign up.
