Welcome to Frisco ISD's Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) at the Student Opportunity Center.
DAEP services are provided to students in grades kindergarten through 12th who have violated certain provisions of the FISD Code of Conduct. The program includes a structured environment in which students can reflect on behaviors, focus on academics, and prepare for future success upon returning to their home campus. This program provides opportunities for students to develop a toolkit of skills necessary to meet expectations of the FISD Code of Conduct and the student’s home campus.
Program Overview
Students length of placements vary depending on Code of Conduct violation. Placement may range from 10 days upwards to 180 days. Typically students who are placed for more than 45 days have an opportunity to earn days of credit for following campus expectations..
Our staff works hard to ensure students are successful in the classroom and socially.
Academic Curriculum
Elementary: The K-5 Classroom environment while at the SOC will mirror the student’s home campus as closely as possible. Teachers at the home campus will collaborate with the SOC campus teacher to ensure all materials are provided for instruction.
Middle School: Students in sixth through eighth grade receive direct instruction from our Math, History, Science and English teachers. SOC teachers use the district curriculum, the scope and sequence and the pacing guide to ensure all materials are being taught at the right time. Any high school credit bearing courses such as Algebra, Health and/or Spanish will also be taken while at the SOC. Electives that are not for credit will be dropped until students return to their home campus.
High School: Most academic subjects for high students are facilitated online via Edgenuity. SOC teachers handle core classes, they also work with home campus teachers to ensure elective course assignments are completed. Some electives may require transporting materials between campuses. AP students will continue working with home campus teachers with DAEP support, students will use Canvas to complete most of their coursework.
The SOC follows all state and district curriculum guidelines.
Social Skills Curriculum
During a student's placement in the DAEP program they will have ample opportunities to build on and improve their social skills. The SOC counselor will meet with students during the advisory period to present and discuss specific lessons and topics. Students will develop skills in goal setting, decision making, identifying and managing emotions, effective communication, and bonding and relationships.
Together We Thrive
Mentoring - The DAEP has partnered with Together We Thrive, a non-profit organization that provides mentoring to students at the DAEP. These mentors meet with students individually as well as in small groups every Friday during the school year.
