Frisco ISD cheer teams went head to head with teams across Texas at this year’s UIL Spirit State Championships in Fort Worth, with five making it to finals by finishing in the top 20 of their division.
Panther Creek High School finished 4th out of over 70 schools in Conference 4A Division I. Wakeland was 7th and Reedy was 15th in Conference 5A Division I. In Conference 5A Division II, Emerson took 13th and Memorial was 14th.
Teams spend months preparing for their three-minute UIL performance — months that Frisco ISD athletes used wisely.
“Every minute of practice was worth it,” said Kristina Steinhauser, Wakeland varsity cheer coach. “My cheerleaders worked so hard, and when they hit the mat, they went out there as great cheerleaders, but also with a lot of heart, giving it everything they had. Proud is not a big enough word to say how I feel about these cheerleaders.”
Panther Creek varsity cheer coach Lexie Pittman said her athletes didn’t waste a second of their short chance to impress.
“Three minutes, that’s all you get,” Pittman said. “Three minutes to hit every motion, every jump, every stunt — and to make a panel of judges believe in you. Three minutes to make history. And that’s exactly what my athletes did. They created a legacy that won’t be forgotten.”
The UIL State Spirit Championships was first introduced to Texas in 2015, created to recognize cheerleaders for their work on the sidelines and for their talents and abilities.
Congratulations to all of Frisco ISD’s cheer teams on a fantastic showing at UIL!
