Frisco ISD students can earn more than their diploma in high school — they can take professional certifications with them, too.
Over 25 certifications can be earned through Frisco ISD career and technical education courses, and 13 more through Collin College.

In the 2023-24 school year, students earned over 1,200 certifications through CTE and Collin College courses. That number is only growing as career and technical education becomes more popular.
Cybersecurity students can get IT specialist certifications in everything from cloud computing to HTML and CSS. Health science students can become a certified nurse aide/assistant, a pharmacy tech and more. Through a number of CTE courses, students can earn CPR certification.
In dual credit courses offered by Collin College, students can earn technical certifications in careers from construction management to HVAC to automotive repair.
That’s just a few certifications students have available to them on the road to their future careers — all available as part of Frisco ISD’s future-ready focus.
“It’s so important that we offer students the chance to earn professional certifications,” said Dianna Manuel, principal at the Career and Technical Education Center. “They equip students with industry-recognized skills that make them competitive in the workforce and help bridge the gap between education and career readiness.”
Most certifications are part of class requirements. In order to participate in work-based learning in certain advanced classes, such as health science, students must be certified.
After graduation, certifications can help students earn experience and money as they work toward their college degree.
And for FISD students not interested in a four-year degree, a certification can put them on a career path.
"Certifications provide students with a clear pathway to high-demand careers without the time and financial investment of a four-year degree,” said Katie Puente, dual credit programming coordinator for Frisco ISD. “They equip students with specialized, marketable skills that employers are actively seeking.”
Students choosing their classes for next year should consider a class that includes a certification. Learn more in the Academic Guide.
