Apply Now for a District Advisory Council Committee

Community members, staff, students and parents are encouraged to apply for committees, which help shape the District’s future. Applications are open now through Aug. 31.

By Frisco ISD Communication

Frisco ISD solicits community feedback in many ways, including annual surveys, community input meetings and Board public comment. Another major way the community can contribute and weigh in on FISD’s future is by joining a District Advisory Council committee.

District Advisory Council committees — which include parents, students, community members and District staff — offer input on everything from school calendars to legislative priorities and more. Applications are now open.

Current Frisco ISD committees

Each committee’s purpose, membership, commitment and term limits info are outlined on the District website. Each committee has different term lengths and limits, and the number of representatives from each stakeholder group varies.

District Advisory Council: The DAC has been restructured and is now a collection of all Frisco ISD committee members who serve in an advisory capacity to the FISD School Board and District leadership. DAC members support their respective committees by reviewing and offering feedback on key District-wide initiatives, educational goals, performance objectives, instructional programs, student support services and compliance-related matters.

In addition to committee service, DAC members will have opportunities to contribute to the development of FISD’s strategic plan and engage in learning experiences related to various district operations.

DAC committees:

  • District Improvement Team - Supports the District’s annual strategic goals adopted by the Board of Trustees. Provides input to District staff on implementation plans, identifies District strengths and opportunities for improvement, and promotes collaboration and problem solving between District leaders and stakeholders.

  • Legislative Leadership Committee - Learns how local, state and federal governmental action impacts Frisco ISD. Recommends legislative priorities for adoption by the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees.

  • Calendars Committee - Develops a recommended school calendar for the following school year.

  • Gifted & Talented Advisory Committee - Provides insight, recommendations and feedback to District staff on GT Curriculum. Membership is limited to parents of students enrolled in FISD GT courses and FISD teachers of GT courses.

  • Career & Technology Education Committee - Provides insight, recommendations and feedback to District staff on CTE curriculum.

  • Safety and Security Committee - Assists with development and implementation of emergency planning recommendations consistent with the district multihazard emergency operations plan and ensures accurate reporting of information requested by the Texas School Safety Center.

  • School Health Advisory Council - Ensures that the District's health instruction and student wellness efforts, including both prevention and support, reflect the values of the community. Discusses and understands emergency response and crisis communication protocols after a crisis event.

  • Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council - Provides feedback and input to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees regarding District and campus initiatives, events and procedures.

  • District Library Advisory Committee - Collaborates closely with the Frisco ISD Library Services Department, offering support to existing processes regarding book selection. The majority of voting members must be non-staff.

Apply now

Frisco ISD uses one application for all District Advisory Council committees. The application opens Aug. 1 and closes at midnight Aug. 31.

If you are selected for a committee, you will receive notice by the end of September. Anyone who is not selected for membership on a committee will remain in the applicant pool and may be selected to fill committee vacancies that occur throughout the year.

More volunteer opportunities

Volunteers are making a huge difference in students’ lives. Just last year, more than 15,000 volunteers were registered, logging over 20,000 hours of service! They were honored at a reception in April.
