FISD Elementary Choir Named TMEA Honor Choir

For the first time ever and in the first year the group auditioned, the Frisco ISD Elementary Honor Choir has been named a 2025 Honor Choir by the Texas Music Educators Association.

This recognition is a testament to the tireless efforts of every Frisco ISD elementary music teacher, whose skillful instruction enriches all students. The Elementary Honor Choir is an audition-based group of 120 Frisco ISD students, representing every elementary campus.

As part of the TMEA Honor Choir assessment, choirs across the state submit recordings that are evaluated in a blind process. A specially trained panel listens to and ranks each of the recordings. Only three elementary choirs in the entire state of Texas were invited to present a concert at the annual TMEA Clinic and Convention, held Feb.12-15, 2025, in San Antonio.

The Elementary Honor Choir is led by co-directors Kimberly Wheelock and Eric Plyler. Assistant directors are Madi Virden, Kaleen Dominguez and Angela Landers.

“This invitation is not simply a performance, but an opportunity to showcase the talent and hard work of the students, staff and families in our district,” Plyler said. “We celebrate the opportunity to share the quality of our Frisco ISD music community with others around the state of Texas.”

The Elementary Honor Choir performs several times a year, including a concert in May that featured alumni.

This is the second consecutive year a Frisco ISD ensemble has been named a TMEA honor group. Last summer, the Lone Star High School Wind Symphony and Lawler Middle School Symphony Orchestra were selected as 2024 TMEA Honor groups and performed in February at the annual convention.
