Wakeland's Michael Brennan won the 5A state championship at 132 pounds, earning the first wrestling state title in school history.
Frisco ISD wrestlers made their mark Friday and Saturday at the UIL State Championships, with 16 wrestlers finishing as 5A state placers and two teams finishing in the top 10 in state.
Wakeland’s Michael Brennan won the 5A state championship at 132 pounds, taking the lead in the final 15 seconds of the title match on a reversal that gave him an 8-7 win. Brennan is the first wrestling state champion in Wakeland’s history.
Centennial’s Yusuf Uribe finished second at 126 pounds, and four FISD girls wrestlers advanced to the finals: Centennial’s Jordyn Parker (126), Frisco’s London Woods (132), Frisco’s Layla Asana (165) and Memorial’s Camille Harris (185).
The Frisco girls team finished fourth in the 5A team standings and the Wakeland boys finished sixth.
