Several upcoming events give community members and industry experts the chance to make a big difference in a student’s life.

As a Frisco ISD mentor, community members can make a big impact in a short time. September brings several opportunities to join FISD mentorship programs and support student success.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can join FISD Achieve Mentoring, or FAM, at the annual kickoff event Sept. 9. And business professionals are invited to the ISM Business Symposium on Sept. 24 to participate in mock interviews and meet-and-greets with students.
Frisco ISD is grateful for the incredible support of our community partners and volunteers, who play a vital role in preparing students for success both in school and beyond. To get involved, all volunteers must complete a background check through VOLY, the District’s volunteer management system. Get started today.
FISD Achieve Mentoring
FISD Achieve Mentoring is looking for dedicated individuals who want to help students reach their potential. Mentors are trained to empower students to develop greater capacity and skill to build and maintain positive relationships, set goals, make responsible decisions and connect within the community.
In 2024-25, over 1,000 students were mentored by nearly 400 volunteers.
“Achieve Mentoring is all about building relationships that help students feel supported and encouraged,” said Randall Ford, district student mentoring coordinator. “Mentors don’t need to have all the answers — just showing up and listening can have a huge impact on a student’s success.”
Mentors and mentees are matched from information provided by parents, staff members and students, which includes a student interest inventory. Mentor sessions take place at school during school hours, at times convenient for both mentors and students.

Event: Join the FISD Achieve Mentoring Kickoff to hear energizing stories from students, parents, staff and mentors, and enjoy door prizes and snacks.
6:15-7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Frisco ISD Administration Building, in the Board Room.
ISM Business Symposium
Students have the chance to study with and learn from industry leaders as part of ISM, or Independent Study and Mentorship.
ISM is an elective course where students focus their study on a career of their choice. They develop a research portfolio and original work through observation and interviews, working with mentors to gain real-world experience. At the one-day ISM Business Symposium, students get their first opportunity to interact with professionals and gain valuable feedback.
“The ISM Business Symposium is an incredible opportunity for students to gain insight into potential career paths,” said Krishna Chetty, advanced academics coordinator. “Our community partners play an important role in helping students discover possibilities they may have never considered before.”
Event: Professionals are invited to the annual ISM Business Symposium, where they will provide students with networking opportunities and facilitate mock interviews.
Two sessions: 8 a.m.-noon and 12:30-5 p.m. Sept. 24 at Panther Creek High School
If you would like to volunteer, please follow the directions in this document. Additionally, a background check is required. Email Krishna Chetty with any questions.
