Wakeland finished 2nd in Class 5A and Panther Creek was 14th in Class 4A in the statewide standings for overall achievement in academic, athletic and fine-arts championships.

The 2024-25 school year included many exciting achievements for Frisco ISD high schools, and for Wakeland and Panther Creek, their success during the school year showed in the University Interscholastic League’s Lone Star Cup.

In the final 2024-25 standings for the Lone Star Cup, which awards points for the overall achievement of high schools in a variety of UIL-sanctioned academic, athletic and fine-arts championships, Wakeland finished second in the state in Class 5A and Panther Creek finished 14th in Class 4A.

The Lone Star Cup standings include points earned for district, regional and state-level achievements in cross country, marching band, military marching band, volleyball, robotics, football, congress, spirit, swimming and diving, film, basketball, academics, one-act play, theatrical design, track and field, golf, tennis, softball and baseball.

For Wakeland, it was the school’s highest ranking ever, matching its second-place finish in the 2016-17 school year. During the 2024-25 school year, Wakeland’s achievements included a state championship in volleyball and a state runner-up finish in girls soccer.

Wakeland has been in the top 10 of the rankings annually dating back to the 2015-16 school year, and it was third during the 2023-24 school year.

Panther Creek appeared in the Lone Star Cup’s top 25 in Class 4A for the second straight year after finishing fourth during the 2023-24 school year. Panther Creek’s achievements during the 2024-25 school year included a second-place finish at the 4A State Marching Band Competition.

“In Frisco ISD, we strive to maximize opportunities for our students to excel in academics and extracurricular activities as part of a well-rounded education,” said FISD Chief Leadership Officer Cory McClendon. “We’re proud of the accomplishments of all our students and happy to see the Lone Star Cup recognition for Wakeland and Panther Creek high schools.”

Since the 2015-16 school year, five other FISD high schools have appeared in the top 25 of the final Lone Star Cup standings: Reedy (2022-23 and 2023-24), Liberty (2015-16 and 2017-18), Lone Star (2022-23), Frisco (2015-16) and Centennial (2015-16).
