Three individual state championships helped Heritage finish second in the 5A boys team standings and FISD student-athletes finished in the top five in the state in 17 events.
Frisco ISD track and field athletes won four state titles and claimed a total of 11 medals at the UIL State Track and Field Championships last week in Austin.
Three of the state champions were from the Heritage boys team, which finished tied for second in the 5A boys team standings in the meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of UT-Austin.
Heritage junior CJ Williams won the discus, setting the 5A state meet record with a throw of 201 feet, 4 inches. He also had a personal best in the shot put competition, taking gold with a distance of 66-3 ¼. Heritage senior Cordial Vann won gold in the long jump with a mark of 24-11, which was nearly two feet better than his distance at the regional meet.
Lone Star junior Davian Groce won the 200-meter dash in 20.52 seconds, pulling away from the field in the final 100 meters to win easily. FISD was well-represented in the 200 meters this year, as Heritage’s Sunmi Akinyeye took the silver in the 5A girls race and Emerson’s Corrine Purnell finished fourth.
Other FISD medalists included Independence's Aarya Krishnan, who earned a silver in the wheelchair 400 and a bronze in the wheelchair 100, in addition to finishing sixth in the seated shot put. Liberty's Cayley Beaumont finished second in the 5A girls long jump and Emerson's Caitlyn Johnson claimed a bronze in the 5A girls triple jump.
In the 4A meet, Panther Creek junior Jaden Lott won silver medals in the boys high jump and long jump.
In total, FISD student-athletes finished in the top five in the state in 17 events.
