Congratulations to Angelica Contreras from Lone Star High School and Natalie Martinez from Corbell Elementary School for receiving the February Standing Ovation Awards! Each month, Frisco ISD recognizes outstanding non-teaching staff members who embody the District’s core values, as nominated by their colleagues.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip visited Angelica and Natalie to express his appreciation for their dedication and impact on Frisco ISD. Their achievements will also be celebrated at a special event in the spring.
The District deeply appreciates their leadership and commitment to supporting the success of Frisco ISD students and staff!
Angelica Contreras - Cafeteria Supervisor, Lone Star High School
Angelica has been a valued employee of Frisco ISD since 2012, serving in various roles, including cashier, cook, crossing guard and assistant cafe supervisor. Her warm smile and cheerful personality create a welcoming atmosphere in the cafe, making it a place where students and staff feel uplifted.
She goes above and beyond to bring joy to students, taking the time to decorate the entire cafe for every holiday and special occasion. Most recently, during National School Lunch Week, Angelica embraced the theme "School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure" by dedicating hours of her own time to crafting incredible decorations, including a pirate ship, treasure maps and even a crocodile. She also inspired her entire cafeteria team to join in by dressing up, making the celebration even more memorable.
Despite opportunities to step into different roles within FISD, Angelica continues to choose the Child Nutrition Program because she finds joy in providing healthy meals and brightening students’ days. She not only creates an enjoyable dining experience for students but also fosters a positive and supportive environment for her team.
Angelica’s unwavering dedication to her students and colleagues makes her truly deserving of the Standing Ovation Award!
Natalie Martinez - Structured Learning Class Paraprofessional, Corbell Elementary School
Natalie Martinez’s colleagues describe her as a compassionate leader and dedicated team player who consistently goes above and beyond for both students and staff. She is not only an invaluable member of the Corbell team but also someone who actively seeks ways to improve the educational experience for students by collaborating with colleagues and offering thoughtful ideas and suggestions.
Her dedication was especially evident when a student in her classroom suffered an injury. Without hesitation, Natalie took charge — gathering medical supplies and ensuring the student received immediate care. Understanding the student’s distress, she also directed another paraprofessional to retrieve comfort items, helping to ease both physical pain and emotional discomfort. Her ability to stay calm under pressure and respond with both efficiency and empathy made all the difference in that moment.
Natalie’s commitment to growth is evident in her pursuit of a degree, as well as in her eagerness to expand her skills. She recently attended parent-teacher conferences to gain insight into family communication and offer her support in preparing for them. Beyond her own development, she continuously uplifts those around her, celebrating students’ successes and encouraging her fellow staff members.
Natalie’s unwavering dedication, kindness and work ethic make her an essential part of the classroom and a pillar of the school community. Her impact is felt by students and colleagues alike, making her truly worthy of the Standing Ovation Award.
