A Lawler seventh grader and Wester eighth grader are moving on to the bee March 8 in Dallas.
Two Frisco ISD students are moving on to the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee after finishing in the top four at the Collin County Spelling Bee.
Lawler seventh grader Vihaan Adaru placed second, and Wester eighth grader Siya Singh placed third. This is Vihaan’s second consecutive trip to the Dallas spelling bee, where last year he placed eighth overall. Last year, Siya was an alternate.
The Collin County Spelling Bee, which was held Feb. 6 at Walnut Grove High School in Prosper, had 45 contestants and lasted 14 rounds. The champion word was “Triassic,” the earliest period of the Mesozoic era or the corresponding system of rocks marked by the first appearance of the dinosaurs.
The Dallas Regional Spelling Bee will be held March 8 at the WFAA studios in Dallas and will air on the free streaming app WFAA+ at a date to be announced. The top two spellers from the Dallas bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May for the chance to win the national title.
Congratulations to all the FISD participants who competed in the Collin County Spelling Bee, and best of luck to Vihaan and Siya!
