Last fall, a state-high 133 Frisco ISD students earned the prestigious designation of National Merit Semifinalist, and in February, all of those students were named Finalists.
Semifinalists are named Finalists each year based on their academics and other requirements — representing less than 1% of eligible high school students.
Finalists now continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered this spring.
The PSAT is the annual qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each fall, Frisco ISD administers the PSAT to students in 10th and 11th grade, not only qualifying them for National Merit recognition, but also helping them identify academic areas of strength and growth, and prepare for college entrance exams like the SAT. FISD’s National Merit Finalists are an academically talented group that are also excelling in fine arts and athletic opportunities at their schools, as well as career and technical education courses.
