The 2025-26 school year was filled with exciting moments in athletics for Frisco ISD, including two team state champions, five team state runners-up and 35 student-athletes winning UIL state medals in individual events.
Along with that success, both Wakeland and Panther Creek high schools finished in the top 10 of the state rankings in the Lone Star Cup, with Wakeland sixth in Class 5A and Panther Creek seventh in Class 4A. The Lone Star Cup awards points for the overall achievement of high schools in a variety of UIL-sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships.
The Lone Star Cup standings include points earned for district, regional and state-level achievements in cross country, marching band, military marching band, volleyball, robotics, football, congress, spirit, swimming and diving, film, basketball, academics, one-act play, theatrical design, track and field, golf, tennis, softball and baseball.
Wakeland has been in the top 10 of the Lone Star Cup rankings annually dating back to the 2015-16 school year. Panther Creek appeared in the Lone Star Cup’s top 25 in 4A for the third straight year.
In total, five FISD high schools finished in the top 50 among high schools from across the state::

Since the 2015-16 school year, a total of seven FISD high schools have appeared in the top 25 of the final Lone Star Cup yearly standings. Joining Wakeland and Panther Creek were Reedy (2022-23 and 2023-24), Liberty (2015-16 and 2017-18), Lone Star (2022-23), Frisco (2015-16) and Centennial (2015-16).
“Academic and extracurricular activities are part of a well-rounded education, and in Frisco ISD, we strive to maximize opportunities for students in both areas,” said Cory McClendon, FISD’s Deputy Superintendent of Schools. “We’re proud of the accomplishments of all our students and happy to see the continued recognition for our schools in the Lone Star Cup.”
