Frisco ISD students earned state recognition at the Texas Academic Octathlon, bringing home a state championship and three more top-10 team finishes.

Congratulations to the members of Liberty High School Team 1, who took first place in the state. The team is led by coaches Tim Johannes, Christine Rittenhouse and Sarah Wiseman.

Also at the state contest, Centennial Team 1 placed fifth, Independence placed eighth and Liberty Team 2 placed ninth.

The eight-event Academic Octathlon includes multiple-choice exams in economics, literature, mathematics, social science, science, art and music. The Super Quiz event is an oral relay over all subjects. Students will also take an essay exam based on the assigned literature and theme content of materials provided for the Texas Academic Decathlon. 

Academic competitions give students the chance to deepen their learning by applying classroom knowledge in real-world contexts — a key part of Frisco ISD’s advanced academics programming.
