Congratulations to the 13 Frisco ISD theater students who have advanced to the state UIL Theatrical Design Contest in May.
As part of the competition, students are asked to design concepts around a specific work, which this year is The King Stag by Eberle Thomas and Barbara Redmond, adapted from Carlos Gozzi's Il Re Cervo. Designers must select a theme and statement that will drive all design decisions. The goal is for this thematic direction to be evident throughout all of their design choices, including all textual and music lyric references.
The competition gives students a chance to show off their creativity on a larger stage, and Frisco ISD students rose to the challenge.
Entries include a justification paper, thematic statement and research board, and contain design plates that showcase each student’s original artwork. Theater professionals from across the state adjudicate the contest.
Best of luck to these high schoolers in the state competition, which will be held May 15-16 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.
